Vice Chancellor’s Annual Ceremony in Honour of Academic Award Winners for the 2018/2019 Academic Year Held

Students who excelled in various academic disciplines in the 2018/2019 academic year have received awards at the Vice-Chancellor’s Annual Ceremony on Thursday and Friday, February 27-28, 2020 at the Great Hall of the University of Ghana. Thursday was dedicated to awards under the College of Humanities and Education and Friday for the College of Basic and Applied Sciences and Health Sciences.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, who represented the Vice-Chancellor as Chairperson in her opening remarks, welcomed all to the ceremony. She expressed her profound gratitude to awardees, parents, sponsors, administrators and faculty of the University for gracing the occasion. She noted that the ceremony was to recognize the outstanding achievement of students who had excelled in both academic and co-curricular activities in the College of Humanities and Education and College of Basic and Applied Sciences and Health Sciences. She added that sixty-nine (69) awards were to be presented to students at the College of Humanities and Education and One-Hundred and three (103) to students at the College of Basic and Applied Sciences and Health Sciences.

Professor Nana Aba Appiah Amfo applauded individual and corporate sponsors for their support in the University’s vision of awarding deserving students and raising world-class human resources to meet national development and global challenges. She encouraged sponsors to continue their work of generosity and sensitivity to help students at the tertiary level because they are of great source of hope to the students. She also commended the awardees on their achievement and encouraged them to be the best in whatever they do to become ambassadors of the University. She was elated to welcome on board three new sponsors namely; Mr. Alfred T. Konu, United States Pharmacopeia and the Legon Lions Club.

The Vice-Chancellor’s Award for the Best Graduating Student admitted under the University of Ghana Policy for Less-Endowed Schools for the College of Humanities and Education was Ms. Janet Emefa Agbedor while Dr. Joseph Osafo Eduah was awarded Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation in the College of Basic and Applied Sciences and Health Sciences.

Mrs. Christy Badu, Ag. Director, Academic Affairs, extolled the sponsors of the various awards for supporting the University in awarding outstanding students.

Delivering the remarks on behalf of the sponsors, Mr. Felix Nyarko-Pong, Sponsor of Mr. Felix Nyarko-Pong and Professor Cephas Narh Omenyo Awards and Mr. Thomas Korle, National Programmes Coordinator, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, both congratulated the Vice-Chancellor and leaders of the University for the opportunity to assist students with brilliant minds. They commended the students for their achievements and encouraged them to continue with the mind-set of transforming the society with their skills and strong ethical standards. They finally applauded sponsors for their generosity of foresight and expressed hope in the continuation of sponsoring students to achieve their aim in life.

Delivering the Vote of Thanks Mr. Dennis Siayor and Ms. Mavis Sakyi, on behalf of the Award winners, expressed intense gratitude to the sponsors, parents, guardians and the University for the great honour done them. They further pledged to continue to be worthy ambassadors of the University.

There were performances by the Ghana Dance Ensemble as well as Spoken Word Poetry by Mr. Dodzi Aveh and friends.
