The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo has inaugurated a 13-member UG Strategic Planning Committee tasked with developing a new Strategic Plan (2024-2029), for the University.

Delivering her remarksProf. Amfo, noted that it was critical to form a committee to review what had been done so far under the current 10-year strategic plan (2014-2024), as this would facilitate the development of the new strategic plan.

She reaffirmed that the University of Ghana's vision since 2014 has been to become a world-class research-intensive university, and it is part of the Committee's responsibility to examine whether that vision has been realised in accordance with the University's strategic objectives, over the last decade.

Prof. Amfo  encouraged the committee to draw inspiration from the Vice-Chancellor’s 6 key strategic objectives, take cognisance of the lessons drawn from the existing plan, incorporate stakeholder perspectives and provide a futuristic framework that will guide the University's activities and aspirations.

She further added that the Committee was planning the new strategy at an ideal time, when the Office of Research and Innovation Development (ORID) is working on a Research Strategy for the University.

She expressed confidence in the team, stressing that they are exceptionally diverse, experienced, and talented people who are qualified, and assured them of the University's support in carrying out their duties.

In his acceptance remarks as the Chairman of the Committee, Prof. Eric Danquah, Director of the West Africa Centre for Crop Improvement (WACCI), expressed his gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor for entrusting the Committee with the responsibility of developing the University's new 5-year strategic plan.

He indicated that the committee promptly began work at the start of the current academic year and has already completed some preliminary work, such as consulting some stakeholders online, to probe the critical Terms of Reference.

He also reported that the Committee has had fruitful in-person discussions with Provosts, Deans and Directors and received input that has informed the review of the instrument the Committee originally developed.

Prof. Danquah emphasised that the inclusive approach expected by the Vice-Chancellor in her appointment letter would allow the Committee to develop a strategic plan which involves the entire University community. He therefore assured her that the Committee would do their best to produce a comprehensive strategic plan that sums up the University's aspirations and priorities and guides the decisions, actions, and choices of all who will be impacted by it.
