University of Ghana Receives German Delegation

A delegation from the Ministry of Education and Research, Germany, has paid a visit to the University of Ghana to explore opportunities for collaboration. The delegation led by Mrs. Anja Karliczek, Federal Minister of Education and Research was accompanied by Mr. Helge Sander, Deputy Germany Ambassador to Ghana.

Mrs. Anja Karliczek in brief remarks noted that the aim of the visit was to discuss collaborations with the University of Ghana in areas of Climate Change, waste to energy, water and vocational and technical skills training.

Welcoming the delegation, Prof. Samuel Kwame Offei, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, (Academic and Student Affairs) gave a brief profile of the University. He indicated that continuous improvement of the technical and vocational component of programmes in the University forms an integral part of the University’s strategic objectives. Addressing issues on knowledge transfer, Prof. Offei indicated that intended beneficiaries of research outcomes are involved throughout the process of knowledge generation resulting in smooth adoption and application.

Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, Vice-Chancellor,  in brief remarks indicated that addressing issues of climate change was at the heart of the University as a Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Studies has been established at the University of Ghana, to provide adaptive and mitigating measures. He also noted that climate change is a global phenomenon hence it requires a globally collaborated effort in addressing it.

As part of the visit, the delegation held discussions with faculty from some Research Institutes, Schools and Departments of the University.

The delegation was also hosted to a luncheon at the Vice-Chancellor’s residence during which there were further discussions on other possible areas of collaboration.

Officials of the University who met the delegation were Prof. Andrew Anthony Adjei, Coordinator, Vice-Chancellor’s Strategic Teams, Mrs. Stella A. Amoa, Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Emmanuel Baidoo, Acting Registrar and College Secretary, College of Basic and Applied Sciences and Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, College Secretary, College of Education.

The two leaders of the delegation later exchanged gifts.
