University of Ghana Receives Donation from MTN Ghana

MTN Ghana has presented ten smart phones to the University of Ghana.  The phones were secured by the student unions together with Prof. Robert Ebo Hinson, Head, Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship, as part of efforts to improve security on campus.

Mr. Faisal Ali, Acting Mobile Money Manager, South East Region in his remarks stated that the smart phones would augment management’s efforts in enhancing security on campus. He added that the gesture also formed part of MTN’s technology and innovative drive.  Mr. Ali also revealed that the smart phones had unique numbers which could easily be remembered to reach security personnel when in distress. He hinted that the company plans to set up an emergency response centre in the University.

Prof. Samuel Kwame Offei, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs) who received the donation on behalf of the University expressed gratitude to MTN for the gesture. He indicated that security was a shared responsibility and all stakeholders had a role to play. He expressed the University’s readiness to have a rapid emergency centre on campus.

Prof. Godfred Bokpin, Acting Dean of Student Affairs, on behalf of students commended MTN for the donation and assured that the phones will be used for its intended purposes.

Present at the ceremony were Major Gariba Pabi (Rtd) and Mr. Iddrisu Seidu of the University Security Services, Mr. Michael Adjivon, Channel Development Coordinator, MTN Ghana and representatives from the Students Representative Council (SRC) and Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG), Legon.
