University of Ghana Receives Delegation from Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU)

The University of Ghana has received a delegation from the Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU), Japan, and called at the Offices of the Dean of the International Programmes. Members of the delegation comprised faculty, undergraduate and graduate students from the Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU). 

This is a follow up visit arising out of a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two Universities.

Welcoming the delegation, the Assistant Registrar, International Programmes Office, Mr. Daniel Hormeku recounted the history of the University, programmes of study, campus life of students as well as the history and socio-cultural orientation of Ghana. He assured the delegation of the readiness of the International Programmes Office to offer the needed administrative support for more collaboration between the two institutions. He further charged students of the University of Ghana to be more adventurous as he outlined the programmes and activities of the International Programmes office.  Mr. Hormeku was delighted that the MoU between the two Universities had yielded fruitful results and wished TMDU all the best in their endeavours.

The Acting Dean, School of Biomedical and Allied Health Sciences, Prof. Major Rtd. George Asare indicated that the visit from the TMDU was the kind of exchanges the School looked forward to.  He gave a brief overview of the activities of the School and called for collaborative projects between the School of Biomedical and Allied Health and the Tokyo Medical and Dental University.  He further urged students from the University of Ghana to take advantage of the collaboration to develop themselves.

In brief remarks, Dr. Lilian Ohene Akorfa who represented the Dean, School of Nursing and Midwifery, called for an extension of the partnership to include the School of Nursing and Midwifery. Dr. Ohene Akorfa revealed that collaborations between the School of Nursing and Midwifery and other Universities in the health sector had impacted the health care system in Ghana positively.

In response, Prof. Motoji Sawabe, leader of the TMDU delegation, pledged to facilitate the process for an advanced collaboration that will deepen the relationship between the two Universities. He also expressed his profound appreciation to the University for the hospitality accorded them.

Earlier, the TMDU delegation delivered series of presentations on the history and culture of Japan, the General health care system in Japan and an overview of the Tokyo Medical and Dental University as well the projects they undertake.

As part of the TMDU visit, the delegation had interactions with the School of Biomedical and Allied Sciences, School of Nursing and the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research and also visited some hospitals in the Accra.
