University Of Ghana Hosts President Of Yale University

The President of Yale University, Peter Salovey, has paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu ahead of a Special Symposium which took place at the Great Hall.   The two discussed issues of mutual concern to their institutions, essentially on collaboration. 

The Vice-Chancellor who welcomed his guest was appreciative of the agreements between Yale and University of Ghana, and was happy that these were going to be extended for a further period.

Two separate signing ceremonies were later held to extend the Fox International Scholars Program and agreement with the University of Ghana’s Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research.

Professor Peter Salovey who signed on behalf of Yale University noted that the Fox Fellowship Programme since its establishment in 1988 has entered into partnership with 19 leading universities across the globe with the goal of engaging in research collaborations, students and faculty exchanges. According to him, about 500 alumni of the Fox Fellowship Programme have formed a network all over the world and working for the common good of the programme

In brief remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu who signed on behalf of the University of Ghana, described the Fox Fellowship partnership as a great opportunity for the University to work with Yale, a leading University with staunch research reputation. He expressed appreciation for the partnership and assured the Yale President of the University’s commitment to the success of the programme.

At the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, the Director, Professor Kwabena Mante Bosompem who signed on behalf of Noguchi, in his welcome address, gave a brief background of the Institute and shared some experiences partnering with Yale University.  Professor Bosompem later made a presentation to the Yale President.

Prof. Margaret Lartey, Dean of the School of Medicine and Dentistry, who signed on behalf of the school thanked the Yale President for the gesture extended to them noting that the collaboration will not only support students and faculty exchanges but also research in the fields of Medicine, Pediatrics and Microbiology.

The symposium, on the theme The Power of Partnership: Strengthening Education, was chaired by Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, Vice-Chancellor of University of Ghana. The Panelists were President of Ashesi University, Patrick Awuah, Elizabeth Elango-Bintliff, CEO Jr Achievement Africa, and Mr. Strive Masiyiwa, Founder and CEO, Econet Wireless.
