The Chancellor of the University, Mrs. Mary Chinery-Hesse, who delivered the opening address, indicated that although graduands would have wished to converge on campus with friends and family, the congregation ceremony has had to be virtual as the nation battles the surge of the Delta variant of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Chancellor further applauded the efforts of scientists and staff of Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) and the West Africa Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens (WACCBIP) for the successful sequencing of the genome responsible for the pandemic; and all frontline health workers who are contributing to the management of COVID-19 in Ghana.

She also commended the University’s faculty for their commitment and dedication to ensure the successful completion of the academic year in order to get back to the regular academic schedule.

The then Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, explained in his report that since the 2020/2021 academic year was in progress, relevant graduating students' statistics would be published in the University’s Basic Statistics. He reiterated the University’s efforts in protecting the staff and students from the Covid-19, thus after extensive consultations across the four Colleges, Management embraced the modular system for teaching and learning. According to him, the modular system had enabled more students to access the University’s accommodation facilities, whilst making use of the institution’s IT infrastructure. He assured all that the University would not relent on its efforts to provide accommodation for a wider student population in the years to come.
