University Of Ghana ENACTUS Calls On Vice Chancellor

The Enactus Chapter of the University of Ghana Business School group recently called on the Vice-Chancellor.  They were led by their Faculty Advisor, Dr. Samuel Buame, Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana Business School. 

 

In his introductory remarks, Dr. Buame provided a background of ENACTUS, formerly known as Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) which he said originated from the United States of America in 1975 when most students could not secure white collar jobs after completion of their education resulting in unemployment.  He said in looking at alternative ways of creating jobs, there was a proposal that a mandatory annual study known as “trace your graduate” be carried out at each tertiary institution in collaboration with governments and industry to enhance skilful training of students and society as well the vulnerable in society mostly women.  He said the group began functioning effectively in Africa in the year 2000 and the University Ghana was chosen as a pilot base.  

 

A member of the group, Mr. Baba Sanjuti also spoke on the group’s achievements.  He said ENACTUS was present in 33 countries in Africa and has the objective of helping to solve the myriad of socio-economic problems of unemployment on the Africa continent.

 

Mr. Sanjuti said UG Enactus has been very active and recently participated and won the “Enactus National Exposition” competition organised by tertiary institutions in Ghana submitting four projects, namely, Soap-making project in Korle-Gonno, Cocoa Research Nsuta; Educating Women Fellowship of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church and Packaging of Hausa Koko known as “Kwik Start”.   They presented the trophy to the Vice Chancellor. 

 

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor acknowledged the group’s laudable achievement and successes chalked in the past years.  He encouraged them to continue with their efforts to arrest the menace of graduate unemployment in recent times, adding that as an institution, the University would continue to fully support their vision and look on with pride, their remarkable achievements.  He thanked the group for keeping him abreast of their activities and wished them well.
