University of Botswana Pays Courtesy Call on Vice-Chancellor

Professor David Norris, Vice-Chancellor of University of Botswana has called on the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu. His visit was to discuss partnership with the University of Ghana to establish linkages, improve the lives of people and effectively address societal needs.

Welcoming the delegation, the Vice-Chancellor, expressed profound gratitude for the visit.   Prof. Oduro Owusu was confident the initiative to build collaboration with the University of Ghana will yield positive results, adding that it was high time new bonds are created within African universities and also strengthen the existing ones.

The Vice-Chancellor added that the change Africa desires must start with academic institutions and admonished African Universities to build stronger ties and also learn to cover up for each others’ weaknesses since unity is strength.

In his presentation on the University of Botswana, Prof. Norris said the University of Botswana was a comprehensive university established in 1982 with eight faculties across all disciplines. He noted that even though the current student population is about 14,000, the university has the capacity to admit 20,000 students. He disclosed that the university is desirous to expand its horizon by admitting students across Africa and the world at large to increase the student population. He indicated that the University of Botswana has experienced and hard working Ghanaian professors who have assisted the university in diverse ways. This according to him also necessitated the visit to the University of Ghana.

Professor David Norris was accompanied by the Honorary Consul of the Botswana Consulate in Ghana, Thomas Okyere.

The Honorary Consul in brief remarks promised the support of his office in making the intended partnership between the University of Ghana and the University of Botswana flourish.

Representatives from the University of Botswana who accompanied Professor David Norris were Prof. Musa W. Dube, Director, Office International Education and Partnerships, Mr. Noeug Segaetsho, Executive Assistant, Vice Chancellor’s Office, and Mr. Alexander Thabo Yawala, Deputy Director, Public Affairs.

Officials of the University of Ghana who were present were Dr. Ibrahim Bedi, Director of Internal Audit Directorate, Mrs. Stella A. Amoa, Director of Public Affairs Directorate and Mrs. Joanna K. Omaboe, Assistant Registrar, Public Affairs Directorate and Mr. Joseph Oduro Nkansah, Deputy Registrar, Office of the Vice Chancellor.
