UGBS Launches Ghana Business Development Review (GBDR)

Prof. Ernest Aryeetey officially launching the GBDR

The University of Ghana Business School (UGBS) has launched the first ever Ghana Business Development Review (GBDR) at the ceremony held at the UGBS Graduate building.

The chairman for the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Professor Ernest Aryeetey, commended the Business School for producing the publication. He said, the past twenty years have witnessed a massive improvement in data collection and analysis which has brought about effective decision making in both private and public sectors. Prof. Aryeetey mentioned that, the report will serve as a guide to potential investors to enable them understand the Ghanaian business environment.

Prof. Aryeetey then officially launched the report, after which copies were distributed to all participating organisations.

In his welcome speech, the Provost of the College of Humanities, Prof. Samuel Agyei-Mensah, congratulated all the authors for excellently researching into various sectors of the economy in Ghana and providing compelling insights in the GBDR.

The Dean of UGBS, Prof. Joshua Yindenaba Abor, addressing the gathering on the purpose of the occasion, observed that the overall aim of the GBDR was to develop an evidenced based report that tracks the performance of businesses in the Ghanaian economy. This he said will help advocate for policies that spur growth and performance of businesses to improve economic development.

Dr. Abdul Gafaru Abdulai, a lecturer at UGBS delivered an overview of the fifteen-chapter report, outlining the sectors’ contents, structures, achievements and challenges. Among the sectors reviewed are Manufacturing, Energy, Oil and Gas, IT and Communication, Hospitality and Tourism among others.
