UGAANA Donates to Support Brilliant but Needy Students

The Students Financial Aid Office (SFAO) has received a cash donation of Three Thousand Dollars (US$3,000) from the University of Ghana Alumni Association of North America (UGAANA) to support three brilliant but needy students of the University. Prof. Alexander Bilson Darku, Vice President, and Chair of the Board of Trustees, of UGAANA, made the presentation on 25th February, 2021 at a brief ceremony held in the Conference Room of the Students Financial Aid Office.

Prof. Darku, who is currently a Visiting Diasporan Professor, stated that even though the Covid-19 pandemic has had a toll on most members of the Association, they are pleased to continue funding the established scholarships for three students, and they hope to increase the number in the future

Prof. Darku presented a second donation to the SFAO. This is a special, one-off scholarship for two Level-400 students, valued at One Thousand U.S. Dollars ($1,000), to commemorate the end of the tenure of the current Board of Trustees.

Responding to the generosity of UGAANA, Mrs. Christy Badu, Deputy Registrar in charge of the Alumni Relations Office and Acting Director of Academic Affairs noted, with joy, that UGAANA since its inauguration in 2017 appears to be the most promising Association. She thanked the Association on behalf of Management of the University of Ghana for their generosity in such difficult times.

Mr. Andrews Avumegah, representing the Head of SFAO, expressed gratitude on behalf of the SFAO to the UGAANA for its commitment to help ensure that funding was not a barrier to access to quality higher education for brilliant but needy students. Also present at the ceremony was Ms. Adwoa Abrokwa, Assistant Registrar at the Alumni Relations Office.
