UG Registry Staff Canteen Inaugurated

The University of Ghana has inaugurated a newly constructed staff canteen at the Registry of the University. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Senior Management and staff whose offices are located at the Registry of the University.

Prof. Ernest Aryeetey, Vice-Chancellor

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ernest Aryeetey in remarks at the ceremony noted that the construction of the facility was in line with the University’s obligation to meet the welfare needs of staff and other internal stakeholders of the University. He emphasized that the vision to become a world class university, demands pursuance of providing significant numbers of facilities to cater for the needs of students and employees. He acknowledged the effort of colleague Senior Management and the Development Committee for mooting the idea to establish the staff canteen. He lauded the Physical Development and Municipal Services Directorate for the design and support offered for the construction of the building. Prof. Aryeetey mentioned in particular that the Registry Staff Canteen would not only be open to staff at the Registry but also accessible to the entire University community.

Mr. Daniel Baidoo, Director of HRODD

The Director of the Human Resource Organizational Development Directorate (HRODD), Mr. Daniel Baidoo, briefed the gathering about the background to the commencement of the building project. He commended the University Management for being proactive in adding a new canteen to the stock of facilities in the University of Ghana, adding that the new canteen would greatly enhance the dietary needs of staff at the Registry and create an environment to make staff life more comfortable, adding that this was in line with seeking the interest of “Internal Stakeholders”, one of the strategic priorities under the Strategic Plan.

The Registrar of the University, Mrs. Mercy Haizel-Ashia, expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ernest Aryeetey and the University Management for taking a critical interest in providing a decent eating place for staff at the Registry. She encouraged all staff to patronize the meals served in the new canteen.

Speaking on behalf of staff, Mrs. Felicia Ntow, thanked Prof. Ernest Aryeetey for honouring his promise of creating a decent eating place for staff, especially those whose offices are located at the Registry. She commended the hard work of the contractor and his team for seeing to the early completion of the facility, and entreated staff to patronise the canteen, while also taking good care of the facility, and maintaining it for the benefit of other staff in the near future.  Coincidentally, Ms. Ntow birthday fell on this day and the Vice Chancellor graciously called on all present to sing “A Happy Birthday” to her, wishing her blessings on this special day.
