UG-PADA Holds Closing and Awards Ceremony for January 2022 Doctoral Schools

 

The University of Ghana Pan-African Doctoral Academy (UG-PADA) has organized its closing and awards ceremony for the January 2022 Doctoral Schools.

The Doctoral School which usually runs in January and June every year, saw Prof. Yaa Ntiamoa-Baidu, the founding Director of PADA, being eulogized for the vision to establish the Academy.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs (ASA), Professor Gordon Awandare, who was the guest speaker for the event, commended the entire PADA faculty for the excellent work done. He expressed appreciation to all 106 participants for making it to the January 2022 School.

Prof. Gordon Awandare, who has been a PADA faculty member since 2015, emphasized the need to create time and space as a part of the sacrifices needed to be made for a successful PhD journey. “You need to create time for it, physical and mental space for it”, he stated.

Prof. Awandare was congratulated by the entire faculty for his new role as Pro-Vice-Chancellor and awarded with a crystal plaque citation.

Emeritus Prof. Ivan Addae–Mensah, former Vice Chancellor of the University who attained 80 years in January 2022, will be taking a backstage as far as PADA facilitation is concerned. He was also awarded with a crystal plaque citation for his contribution towards the development of the next generation of African Scholars.

Dr. Jemima Asabea Anderson, Director, PADA, in her closing remarks, thanked all participants present for their participation. She underscored plans of the faculty to roll out other programmes for the doctoral school.

Earlier, participants were given the opportunity to share their experiences on the programme, after which certificates were presented to them for successfully completing the January 2022 School programme.

Present at the event were Dr. Collins Badu Agyemang, PADA Doctoral School Coordinator; Prof. Audrey Gadzekpo,        Professor of Communication and Media Studies; Prof Nana Akua Anyidoho, Director, Center for Social Policy Studies; Prof. Dorcas Osei-Safo, Vice Dean, Graduate School; Prof. Joseph Mensah, Yorke University; Prof. David Dodoo-Arhin, Department of Materials Science and Engineering and Dr. Richard Minkah, Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science.

The facilitators were Dr. Abena A. Yeboah-Banin, Dr. Alimsiwen Elijah Ayaawan, and Mrs. Beatrice Sakyibea Biney-Nyamekye.
