UG Holds November 2016 Congregation Ceremonies

The University of Ghana has held the 2016 November Congregation ceremonies for students who completed various programmes of study from the four Colleges namely, the College of Basic and Applied Sciences (CBAS), the College of Education (CoE), the College of Health Sciences (CHS), and the College of Humanities (CoH).

There were six sessions; two concurrent morning sessions on Friday, 18th November and Saturday 19th November at the Great Hall and R.S. Amegashie Hall at the University of Ghana Business School as well as two sessions on Saturday, November 19th .

Sessions at the R.S. Amegashie Auditorium were held for graduate students from the College of Humanities, whilst undergraduates from the College of Health Sciences, College of Basic and Applied Sciences (joint session), College of Education and College of Humanities had their sessions at the Great Hall on Friday and Saturday.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu in his address to Congregation highlighted some of the achievements of the University in the area of governance, academic affairs, Research, Innovation and Development as well as Physical Development. He said the recent rankings compiled by the Times Higher Education placed the University in the 7th position among African Universities, adding that under research, one of the pillars used for assessment, it was obvious the University was well on course to becoming a research-intensive University.

He challenged graduands to improve upon their critical skills as they enter the job market and strive to make a difference. The Vice-Chancellor urged the graduands to make use of the knowledge they had acquired as it will guide them in making the right choices in the world of work.

 

For the sessions at the Great Hall, the Chairman of Council, Professor Kwamena Ahwoi presided over the morning and afternoon sessions while Mr. Richard Kwame Asante, a Member of Council, presided over the morning and afternoon sessions on Saturday. The Vice-Chancellor delivered his address at all four sessions at the Great Hall on Friday and Saturday.

For the sessions at the R.S. Amegashie Auditorium, Mr. John Klinogo, a Member of Council, presided over the sessions, while Professor Kwame Offei, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs) who stood in for the Vice Chancellor, read the Vice Chancellor’s Address at the Friday session while Rev. Prof. Cephas Omenyo, Acting Pro-Vice Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Development, read the Vice Chancellor’s Address.

As is the custom, all six sessions had guest speakers chosen for their various achievements, to encourage the graduands on this special day.
