The Chairman of the University of Ghana Alumni Association, Mr. Kwesi Yankey has hosted student leaders of the University to a dinner reception at his residence to interact with them and deliberate on challenges facing students.

Mr. Yankey explained that the monthly event was an opportunity for members of the Alumni Council to meet and interact with the student leaders and also to discuss ways in which the Association could support them with whatever challenges they faced.
He said that even though the Alumni Association was established for alumni of the University, the Association was putting structures in place for the induction of “Student Members” into the Alumni Association. Outlining the benefits of being a Student Member of the Association, Mr. Yankey said 30% of the student member subscription would be invested in a special insurance policy for all students, 40% into an endowment fund and the remaining 30% put into scholarship programmes and to support other student requests. He entreated the Student leaders present to explain these modalities to their colleagues and encourage them to join the Association whiles in school and after graduation.
Other members of the Alumni Association Council, who were present at the reception, answered various questions from the student leaders. They also shared stories of their student days on campus and encouraged the students to take advantage of all the opportunities available to them through the Association to establish a good network for mentorship, career guidance and counselling, support for various student projects among others.
They encouraged the students to take pride in the University’s current ranking as the 7th best on the African continent and highest in Ghana and West Africa and to endeavour to contribute their quota in preserving the University’s heritage by joining the Alumni Association and patronizing its student-based activities.
The SRC President, Ms. Esinam Seade, on behalf of her colleagues expressed their gratitude to Mr. Yankey and the Council of the Alumni Association for the invitation and for listening to their concerns. She pledged the student leadership’s support for the Association and commitment to ensuring that students also play their part in building a world class University.
