Students Financial Aid Office Receives Donation from Latex Foam

 

The Students Financial Aid Office (SFAO) has received a donation of GH¢12,000 from Latex Foam Company Limited.  The donation will support needy but brilliant students.  The Public Relations Officer of the company, Mrs. Gifty Appiah, presented the cheque on behalf of her company.

In presenting the cheque, Mrs. Gifty Appiah emphazised the goal of education which she said seeks to bring socio-economic freedom and empowerment to people.  “We are sad to hear about the situation of several brilliant but needy students who need support for their education”, she said.  She recounted the company’s long association with the SFAO, and noted that Latex Foam derived satisfaction in supporting brilliant but needy students.  She also indicated that Latex Foam’s efforts to complete some summer huts for students’ use are currently under construction.

Receiving the donation, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic and Student Affairs, Professor Samuel Kwame Offei, thanked Latex Foam for being a long-standing benefactor of brilliant but needy students of the University. He noted the consistency of the financial support from Latex Foam and how such donations have greatly helped students through their tertiary education.  Professor Offei also commended and congratulated Latex Foam for the immense contribution made towards the construction of the SRC Building and the refurbishment of some offices in the university.

In addressing some of the challenges faced by brilliant but needy students, Professor Offei said that the university has not been able to cater for the growing number of applications received by the SFAO.  He was optimistic that the relationship between the University of Ghana and Latex Foam would continue to grow.

Mrs. Christine Baning, Head of the SFAO, recalled Latex Foams’ support over the past six years.

Present at the meeting were Professor K.E. Nunoo, the Dean of Student Affairs; Mr. Benedict Ofosu, Assistant Registrar at the Office of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor; and Mr. Simon Sackitey, a staff of Latex Foam.
