A retired Veterinarian and author, Dr. Daniel Sackey has donated 10 copies of his book “Dog care” as well as some books on parrots, macaws and exotic birds to the School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM). The donation was part his 71st birthday celebrations.

The books were received by the Dean of the SVM, Prof. Paa Kobina Turkson and the former Dean, Prof.  George Aning.

Dr. Sackey said the donation was his contribution to veterinary education in Ghana and to a profession that had provided him with his livelihood for most part of his life.

Prof. Turkson was grateful for the kind donation and said there were plans in place to implement a mentorship programme for students of the School. He added that the mentorship programme will provide an opportunity for students to be paired with experienced veterinarians such as Dr. Sackey, to guide them in the art and science of the veterinary profession. This, he indicated, would inculcate professionalism in the students even before graduation.

The former Dean of SVM, Prof.  Aning thanked Dr. Sackey for his immense contribution to the practice of veterinary medicine in Ghana.Prof. Sackey was accompanied by his wife Prof. Brigid Sackey of the Centre for Social Policy studies, two of his children and a private Veterinarian and Director of the Tema Animal Hospital, Dr. Andy Quarcoopome.
