New Governing Council for University of Ghana

The Minister for Education, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has sworn-in 28 distinguished personalities to serve on the governing Council of the University of Ghana.

The Council would be responsible for the governance and implementation of the 2014 – 2024 Strategic Plan of the University of Ghana to achieve its vision of becoming a world-class research intensive university over the next decade.

Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang praised the new Members of Council for accepting the President’s appointment to serve on the Council. She expressed government’s appreciation to the past members of the council for their dedicated service to the University, and urged the new Members of Council to establish a good working relationship with their predecessors while providing the needed policy direction and support to advance academic work.

The Minister further urged the Council to comply with the functions of the Council as stated in the University of Ghana Act, 2010 (Act 806). This she noted would augment the efforts of University Management to solve challenges that may confront the University of Ghana.

The Chairman of the University Council, Prof. Kwamina Ahwoi, lauded the University of Ghana for its contribution to the development of the country. He said the new Council would work hard to resolve challenges facing the University and reiterated their commitment towards achieving the vision of the University of Ghana to become a world class university.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, implored the Members of Council to work with the basic laws governing the University. He assured the Council of his commitment to collaborate and work effectively with them to achieve the vision of the University of Ghana.
