Professor Gordon Awandare, Pro Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic and Student Affairs at the University of Ghana and some Management members have visited the Africa Integras Hostel construction site to ascertain progress of work at the site.
When completed, the project which is currently at its roofing stage, will house approximately 904 students. The Africa Integras Hostel is part of Management's efforts to alleviate the accommodation challenges that students face on the UG campus.
Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the project is expected to be completed for occupancy next academic year.
The Africa Integras Hostel will have two-in-one rooms, reading rooms, laundry rooms, kitchenettes, mini libraries and offices. Though the rooms will be metered, provision has been made for the use of solar power at the common areas.
Accompanying the Pro-VC was Mrs. Elizier Ameyaw-Buronyah, Director, Public Affairs Directorate; Mr. Francis K. Boachie, Chief Information Technology Officer (CITO); Mr. Patrick Kuti, Deputy CITO and Major (Rtd.) Adams Gariba, Security Coordinator.
In August last year, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo was conducted round the project site by the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Research, Innovation and Development, Prof. Felix A. Asante, who is also the Chair of the Infrastructure Development Committee (IDC). She interacted with the contractors to assess the level of work executed.
The Africa Integras Hostel is a testament to the efforts Management is making to increase student housing to improve students experience on campus.
