Maiden ‘Science Slam’ Event at UG

The Department of Mathematics in collaboration with Femafric, an UG Mathematics alumnus initiative organized the maiden ‘Science Slam’ event at the Department of Engineering SF lab on February 16th, 2019. This scientific communication event had presenters talk about an area of interest in science using props and slides to explain science concepts in layman terms. Topics for presentation ranged from the physics of solar cells, through analyzing risks of investments to the mathematics behind machine learning.

Angela Tabiri, an alumna of the Department of Mathematics currently pursuing her PhD at University of Glasgow brought her experience in previous International science slam events in organizing this in Ghana for the first time. In attendance were members from the University of Ghana, University of Glasgow, African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) and the public. The next ‘science slam’ event will be in October at the University of Ghana.
