Launch of Soft Landscaping of University of Ghana Boulevard

The University of Ghana in partnership with the HFC Bank has launched the soft landscaping of the main University’s Boulevard.

Welcoming guests, Dr. Benjamin D. Ofori, Co-Chair of the Vice Chancellor’s Green Team disclosed that the university in October 2017 signed a Memorandum of Understanding with HFC Bank to transform some parts of the university’s greenery. The launch of the project, he noted marks the commencement of work on the redesigning of segments of the J. B. Danquah Avenue. He said the project is expected to be completed within six months.

Mr. Anthony Jordan, Managing Director of HFC Bank Limited was very impressed at the importance attached to the greening and beautification of the university and commended the leadership of the University for the relentless efforts in that regard. He said that the project came at the right time since it coincides with the Banks cooperate social responsibility agenda of supporting a Clean Ghana. He also reiterated the Bank’s full commitment to the beautification project saying that it was in line with their aim of building successful communities.

Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, in his remarks said that the beautification of the University’s campus was an integral part of  transforming the University into a “go to” university on the continent. He said that future generations need to appreciate the importance of preserving a clean environment to carry on the vision beyond his tenure as Vice-Chancellor. He called on the University community to support strategies to make the university the cleanest in Ghana and eventually Africa, as it’s in line with the President’s goal of having a Clean Ghana.

Prof. Owusu thanked HFC Bank for having fulfilled their part of the contract and assured them of the university’s commitment in fulfilling its part. He finally admonished that the “Vice Chancellor’s Green Team” be maintained to help keep the project going.

The ceremony was climaxed with the planting of two flowers in the Meki Abbas roundabout by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu and the Managing Director of HFC Bank, Mr. Jonathan Jordan.

Also in attendance were some officials from the University of Ghana including the Pro-Vice Chancellor Office of Research Innovation Development, Prof. Francis Dodoo, Registrar, Mrs. Mercy Haizel-Ashia, Prof. Samuel Agyei-Mensah, the Provost of the College of Humanities, the Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Stella Amoa, and from HFC Bank, Mad. Paula Baldwin, the General Manager of Retail Banking as well as other officials from the bank.
