Hilla Limann Hall Hosts 40th Anniversary Commemoration of Dr. Hilla Limann as President

The family of the late President Dr. Hilla Limann in collaboration with the Management and JCR of Hilla Limann Hall at the University of Ghana has held a short commemorative ceremony to mark the 40th anniversary of the swearing into office of Dr. Hilla Limann as President of the Republic of Ghana. The ceremony was held on Tuesday, 24th September 2019 at the Hilla Limann Hall.

In his welcome address, Prof. Bernardin Senadza, Senior Tutor of the Hall, said the University was proud to be associated with Dr. Hilla Limann. Noting that the Hall is one of the most prestigious halls on campus, Prof. Senadza emphasized their preparedness to collaborate with the family at all times to uphold the legacies of the late President.

Ms. Selma Limann, daughter of the former President, who delivered the commemorative speech on behalf of the family, implored residents of the Hall and students of the University to live by the preiciples of truth and integrity, which were attributes of her late father.

The JCR President, Mr. Kofi Keelson-Aikins expressed gratitude to the family of the late President and hoped that the collaboration between the University and family will grow stronger.  He appealed to the family to consider onstructing a library in the Hall in memory of the late President.  There were speeches from other dignitaries present at the ceremony, interspersed with poetry recitals.  A photo exhibition displaying photographs of the late president during his term in office climaxed the ceremony.

Dr. Hilla Limann, who was the only President of the 3rd Republic, was sworn into office on 24h September, 1979.  Hilla Limann Hall was the first of the University of Ghana Enterprise Limited (UGEL) hostel projects to be completed by the University. It was inaugurated in July 2010 during which the then Vice-Chancellor, Professor Clifford Nii-Boi Tagoe announced the decision to name the Hall after Dr. Hilla Limann.

Present at the ceremony was Mrs. Fulera Limann, wife of the late President; two of his children, Dr. Zilla H. Limann and Ms Selma Limann; his brother, Kuoru Kuri Buktie Limann IV, Chief of Gwollu and Paramount Chief of the Sissala West district as well as other members of the Limann family.

The ceremony was also graced by the Minister of Presidential and Special Affairs in Dr. Limann’s government, Naa Professor John S. Nabila, the Paramount Chief of the Wulungu Traditional Area in Northern Region of Ghana and a former President of the National House of Chiefs as well as Mr. Bernard Mornah, Chairman of the People’s National Convention (PNC).  

Mrs. Stella A. Amoa, Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Daniel Appiah-Adjei and Dr. Albert Antwi-Bosiako, Tutors of the Hall, Ms Anita Panful, JCR Vice-President, Mr. Micheal Adjah, Secretary, Mr. Samuel Attoh, Sports Secretary, Mr. Gabriel Godzo, Organising Secretary and some students of the hall were also in attendance.
