GAUA Legon Holds Annual General Meeting

The University of Ghana branch of Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA-UG), on September 9, 2021, held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Great Hall. As part of the AGM, GAUA elected new executives to steer the affairs of the Association.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, in a brief statement, congratulated the newly elected executives and advised them to work in harmony for the growth of the University. Prof. Amfo also expressed appreciation to the GAUA members for their tremendous support in working to achieve the University’s strategic goals. ‘As Management, we acknowledge that administrators and other professionals are critical to running the University’, she said. Prof. Amfo disclosed that Management is working closely with GAUA and other Union leaders to ensure a good working environment for the benefit of all staff.

In brief remarks, the Registrar, Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, urged all GAUA members to continue to make decisions that will yield positive contributions to the management of the University. She pledged her dedication and commitment to improving the working conditions of members. Mrs. Agyei-Mensah also congratulated the Association’s new executives.

The President of GAUA, Mr. Michael Owusu Ansah extended his profound gratitude to the outgone executives and wished the new leadership well as they come into office. He also welcomed the thirty (30) new GAUA members and congratulated them on their appointment. Mr. Owusu Ansah presented a report on the status of conditions of service, welfare and the financial standing of the Association to members present.

During the proceedings, the Legal Counsel of the University, Professor Olivia Anku-Tsede, administered the oaths of office and secrecy to the new executives after which she reminded them to acknowledge the oaths as a contract between them and the Association.

The executives members who were sworn into office were President, Mr. Michael Owusu Ansah; Vice-President, Mr. Philip Quaye; Secretary, Mr. Augustine Amissare; Assistant Secretary, Mr. Albert Adjekum Essuman; Treasurer, Mr. Alex Nii Than Crabbe; Editor, Mr. Samuel Yayra Amebley; 1st Executive Member, Mrs. Christina Armah and 2nd Executive Member, Mr. Ezekiel Acquaah. There was, however, a tie in the contest for the position of 3rd Executive Membership between Mrs. Regina Afari Boateng and Dr. Dan Bassadut. The Electoral

Commission promised to communicate arrangements for the run-off to members.
