FUSSAG Executives Call on Acting Vice-Chancellor

The newly elected Chairman and executives of the Federation of University Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG), Legon Branch, paid a courtesy call on the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo on August 18, 2021. Their visit was to welcome her into office, introduce themselves and to present the concerns of members to her.

Welcoming the team, the Acting Vice-Chancellor extended her appreciation for the visit and emphasized the University’s commitment to ensuring employees work under the best conditions.

In his remarks, Mr. Jonathan Kabu, Chairman, FUSSAG-UG, expressed gratitude to the Acting Vice-Chancellor for accepting to meet them. He further presented some concerns which largely bordered on health, training and education, accommodation and other welfare issues.

Responding to their concerns, Prof. Amfo assured the leadership of Management’s determination to look into the issues presented in order to find an amicable solution to them. She noted that due to the limited resources available to the University, it was important for members of the University community to work together by being mindful of the realities on the ground in contemporary times. The Acting Vice-Chancellor further advised the Union to be diligent in their duties and assured them of the University’s unflinching support.

The Registrar, Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, advised the leadership of the Union to impress on their members to take advantage of credible online courses to improve on their skill set.

Mr. Daniel O. Baidoo, Director, Human Resource and Organisational Development Directorate (HRODD), took the opportunity to inform the Union of the re-introduction of the University’s Best Worker Award Scheme. He explained that although the pandemic contributed to halting of the awards scheme, there was the need to revisit and recognise the efforts of deserving employees of the University during the virtual congregations. According to Mr. Baidoo, nominees for the awards will alternate between junior and senior staff.

Present at the meeting was Mrs. Arhizah Blay-Abiti, Senior Assistant Registrar, Office of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Students Affairs.

Other FUSSAG executives present were Mr. Emmanuel Sreonyame, First Vice Chairman; Mrs. Joyce Duah, Second Vice Chairperson; Mr. Elisha Kyirem, Secretary; Mr. Daniel Nyarkoh, Assistant Secretary and Mr. Israel Goka, Trustee.
