Family and Consumer Sciences Launches Book on the History of the Department

The Department of Family and Consumer Sciences, School of Agriculture, has launched a book authored by a former member of faculty at a colourful ceremony at the Legon Campus.

The book, “Remembering the Journey”   authored by Dr. Charlotte Anokwa, who is also a former student of the department, catalogues the history of the Home Science Department (now Family and Consumer Sciences Department) from the 1960’s to 2010 in the context of women’s education in Ghana.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Ernest Aryeetey who performed the launch acknowledged the pioneering works of faculty members and commended Dr. Anokwa for staying true to the department and working hard to ensure that the memory was not lost.  The ceremony was chaired by Professor Kwame Offei, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs.  Remarks were also delivered by Dr. Daniel Bruce Sarpong of the School of Agriculture.

Earlier, a former Head of Department, Dr. Angelina Danquah introduced the Chairman after which the Head of Department, Prof. Christina Nti, gave the welcome address. 

 

Dr. Vivian Ofosu-Tackie, faculty member of the Department, who directed the ceremony, in introducing some of the distinguished guests at the ceremony, gave prominence to some individuals who had been part of the department from its early beginnings.   Some of them were given the opportunity to give brief remarks, captioned “The way things were”.  They were Mrs. Magdalene Abrokwa (Class of 1969) Mrs. Jane Kwawu, Prof. Laetita Hevi-Yiboe (Class of 1971), Prof. Docea Fianu (Class of 1971), Mrs. Edith Francois, faculty member, Mrs. Nabilla Williams, faculty member, and Prof. Clara Opare-Obisaw (faculty member).  Also in attendance was the Director of Public Affairs, Mrs. Stella A. Amoa, faculty members and students of the College of Basic and Applied Sciences.
