Department of Music Presents “The Majesty of Christmas”

The Department of Music, School of Performing Arts has held its annual Christmas concert on 14th of December 2018 at the Efua T. Sutherland Drama Studio on the university of Ghana campus. The concert featured the Department of Music choral ensemble, and was conducted by Dr. Ben Amakye Boateng and Mr. Timothy. E. Andoh.

 Performances included solo pieces, piano recitals and a wonderful rendition of “The Majesty of Christmas”, a musical written by David T. Clydesdale.

The majesty of Christmas captures the beauty and power of the most enjoyed traditional Christmas carols such as O Holy Night, and Infant Jesus, which have been rearranged and interwoven with inspiring original compositions such as O Night of Miracles! and Gloria! Hallelujah! The musical also included scenes of the nativity, the angel’s appearance and the wise men worshiping and praising the newborn Prince of peace.

The icing on the cake was the lovely renditions by the 14-member School of Performing Arts Staff Choir.

The head of Music Department, Dr. Adwoa Arhine gave the opening remarks and welcomed the audience. Among the fully packed audience, were members of the University fraternity and the general public. Also, in attendance was a delegation of faculty and students from the Department of Music, University of Education, Winneba which was led by Mr. Obed Acquah, the Head of Department. Delivering the Christmas message, Dr. Ekua Ekumah, the cognate head, Theatre Arts Department of the University of Ghana entreated all present to uphold the spirit of Christmas which includes sharing, loving and living in harmony with one another.
