Dental School Phase II and Refurbished CHS Library Commissioned

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu unveiling the plaque

On Thursday, July 29, 2021, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, commissioned the Dental School Phase II and the refurbished College of Health Sciences library at a short ceremony held on the Korle-Bu campus.

Prof. Oduro Owusu expressed delight at the successful completion of the two projects. He commended the College Fundraising Committee and the project contractors for their excellent works and timely delivery respectively. He reiterated the importance of the projects in helping the University achieve its strategic priorities of research, teaching and learning and urged the Management of the College to prioritise maintaining and extending the lifespan of the projects, adding that currently, state of the art facilities in universities do not only aid in attaining higher ranking positions worldwide, but also attract the best faculty, staff and students.

Prof. Oduro Owusu cautioned the University community to be committed to protecting and preserving the image and reputation of the University and fully support the new Management Team as he ends his tenure of office. He seized the opportunity to thank all who played diverse roles to contribute to the success of the University during his tenure.

The then Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Rev. Prof. Patrick Ayeh-Kumi, in his remarks expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor, past Provosts, Deans and staff for their resilience, which has resulted in the completion of the projects. He called on the leadership of the School to cherish and maintain the projects.

Rev. Prof. Ayeh-Kumi wished the College well in its future endeavors as he hands over the Provost mantle.

In brief remarks, Prof. Angela Ofori-Atta, Chairperson, College of Health Sciences Fundraising Committee, conveyed the Committee’s gratitude to donors and well-wishers for raising the funds to support the refurbishment of the College library.

Director of the Physical Development and Municipal Services Directorate (PDMSD), Mr. Charles Kofinti, commended the Vice-Chancellor for commissioning three outstanding projects, two of which were over 20 years old. He also praised the consultants and the contractors for executing the projects as expected.

Delivering the vote of thanks, the Acting Dean of the School, Prof. Ebenezer Anno Nyarko presented crystal plaques to show the appreciation of the School to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu, Emerita Professor Isabella Kwakye, Prof. Andrew Anthony Adjei, and Emeritus Professor Albert George Amoah for their hard work and dedication to the construction of the projects.

Prof. Anno Nyarko was also grateful to the past and present Deans, Vice Deans, members of the School Management Committee and the Senior Management of the University.

Reverends Dr. Thomas Ndanu and Dr. Charles Antwi Boasiako performed the dedication of the Dental School Phase II and the refurbished College of Health Sciences Library respectively followed by the unveiling of plaques and a tour of the facility.

In attendance were the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (RID), Prof. Felix Asante, former Vice- Chancellor, Prof. Clifford Nii Boi Tagoe, faculty, alumni, and staff of the University.
