Delegation from University of Sierra Leone Complete Week-Long Study Tour of UG

The Finance Director and Deputy Director of ICT from the University of Sierra Leone (USL) have completed a one-week study tour of the University of Ghana.

The visit was to gain a comprehensive understanding of UG's IT management systems, particularly the Finance Module.

The tour began on Monday, February 6, 2023, with a courtesy call on the Registrar, Mrs. Emelia Agyei Mensah, by Mrs. Waltina Brenda Mackay, Finance Director and Mr. Michael Kamara, Deputy Director of ICT at USL. Mrs. Agyei Mensah welcomed the delegation and wished them a successful and fruitful study tour.

Mrs. Mavis Osafo Adu, Assistant Registrar, Public Affairs Directorate, provided a brief overview of the University and explained its management and collegiate system.

During the one-week tour, the team from the University of Sierra Leone visited the offices of the Deputy Director of Finance (MAP)/ITS User Coordinator, the Deputy Director of Finance (FATM)/Accountant and Financial Accounting, as well as the Treasury and Payables, Payroll and Students Accounts offices. They were also at the University of Ghana Computing Systems (UGCS), the Logistics Directorate, Academic Affairs Directorate and the Human Resource and Organisational Development Directorate (HRODD).

The tour concluded with a closing ceremony at which Mr. Michael Kamara and Mrs. Waltina Brenda Mackay thanked the University for the hospitality and shared the experiences they had during the 5-day tour.

They commended the University's budgeting system, fee collection strategy, and admission processes, and indicated their desire to modify some of their systems back in Sierra Leone to achieve the same level of efficiency. They also requested guidance from the University of Ghana, as the University of Sierra Leone seeks to build slowly by focusing on some topics that are critical to the development of the institution.

An MoU was also signed to formalise the areas of collaboration between the two institutions.

Mrs. Emelia Agyei-Mensah, Registrar, expressed gratitude to the delegation and urged both institutions to continue collaborating to ensure a fruitful partnership.

On behalf of the University, she presented some UG branded souvenirs to the delegates.
