Chinese Director of Confucius Institute Pays Farewell Visit to Vice-Chancellor

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Appiah Amfo presented a citation to Prof. Beijuan on behalf of the University

The Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at the University, Prof. Chu Beijuan has paid a farewell visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, ahead of her end of tenure in November 2022.  

In her remarks, Prof. Beijuan expressed appreciation to Prof. Amfo for the support received from Management during her tenure. She stated that even though she was leaving Ghana, she would always have fond memories of her time at the University. She expressed the hope that the University will continue to cultivate more outstanding talents for the development of the country. 

Prof. Beijuan recalled some challenges encountered during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic and noted that in spite of those challenges, the Institute was able to record some significant achievements under her leadership.

On her part, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo commended Prof. Chu Beijuan for her contribution to Chinese language education. She wished her well and hoped that she will cherish all the memories gathered while working at the University. Prof. Amfo said she looked forward to the resumption of some activities of the Institute that were stalled because of the COVID-19 pandemic.  

Prof. Amfo presented a citation to Prof. Beijuan in recognition of her dedication to the development of the interest of Ghanaian students in the Chinese language and culture, during her term in office.

Accompanying Prof. Chu Beijuan were Prof. Josephine Dzahene-Quarshie, Ghanaian Director of the Institute, Li Shang, Shen Xiaoxi, Zhai Ganggiang, Zhou Sifenz, who are all staff of the Confucius Institute.

The Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana was established in 2013 to help teach the Chinese language, culture, and philosophy as well as promote bilateral relations between Ghana and the People’s Republic of China.
