Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Pays Courtesy Call On Vice-Chancellor

The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Sun Bao Hong, has paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ebenezer Oduro Owusu. The Chinese Ambassador who attended the investiture of the Vice Chancellor in August said she called on him to congratulate him.  She said China values its cooperation with the University of Ghana and looks forward to a lasting cooperation. She commended University Management for the support given to the Government of China to establish the Confucius Institute at the University of Ghana and urged young people especially students at the University to take advantage of the opportunities offered at the Confucius Institute to study and learn the Chinese language and culture.
 
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ebenezer Oduro Owusu welcomed the Ambassador to the University. He underscored a number of Chinese projects at the University and noted that the visit by Her Excellency Sun Bao Hong to the University was a further step in strengthening the existing partnership between the two countries and related institutions. He gave the assurance that the University would prepare grounds to facilitate fruitful cooperation with China, citing the establishment of the Centre for Asian Studies at the University of Ghana. Prof. Owusu mentioned that many of the University students are encouraged to take advantage of the study of Chinese language as it offers a second language option and opens employment avenues. 
The Chinese Ambassador was accompanied by her associates, Lei Mei Lian and Li Jiang Wei. Present at the meeting was Mrs. Mercy Haizel-Ashia, Registrar of the University, and Prof. Samuel Kwame Offei, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs.
