Centre for Ageing Studies Coordinates Donation to Aged

The Centre for Ageing Studies (CFAS) has organised a donation ceremony at its premises to present items to some of its stakeholders to be distributed to older persons in need.

The items, which included walking aids, older persons’ diapers, among others, were sponsored by Prof. Sylvester Jim Bowie, Sacramento State University California.

The items were received by the Tobinco Foundation, Naro Aged Care Agency, Larteh Aged Welfare Foundation, Physiotherapy Unit at the University of Ghana Hospital, and the Korle Bu Polyclinic.

In his remarks as the Chairperson, Mr. Samuel Amo Tobbin, Executive Chairman of the Tobinco Group of Companies, expressed his profound gratitude to the sponsor for willingly offering to support vulnerable older persons.

Provost of the College of Humanities, Prof. Daniel Frimpong Ofori who was present at the cermony, also thanked Mr. Bowie for the support,  while urging him to continue supporting senior citizens through CFAS.

The Head of the Physiotherapy Unit at the University of Ghana Hospital, Mr. Daniel Opoku also remarked that the kind gesture showcased by Prof. Bowie was a step in the right direction as it could go a long way to offer very important forms of relief to older persons.

Prof. Sylvester Jim Bowie indicated that many older persons would require some form of care and support to attain a good quality of life. Therefore, it is essential for the requisite assistance to be made available for this vulnerable population.

Prof. Bowie’s speech was followed by the presentation of the items to the representatives of the various beneficiary organisations/stakeholders, on behalf of the targeted older persons.
