Careers and Counselling Centre and TotalEnergies Hold Career Fair

A cross-section of participants at the Fair

The University of Ghana Careers and Counselling Centre (UGCCC) in collaboration with TotalEnergies, has hosted a Career Fair for all UG Students under the theme, “Energizing the Youth Through Education”.

In brief remarks, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs’ (ASA), Prof. Gordon Awandare who is also the Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Careers and Counselling Centre, mentioned that it was a key strategy of the University to partner with industry. He emphasised the need to increase engagement with industry in order to bridge the Industry-Academia gap. Prof. Awandare said, “We need industry in order to apply what is learnt and we are extremely grateful to TotalEnergies for taking this initiative”.

Earlier, Dr. Bridget Ben-Naimah, Director, UGCCC, in her welcome address noted that though the TotalEnergies Career Fair was being organised for the first time, she was hopeful of a lasting relationship between the Centre and TotalEnergies. She stated that the Fair was a way of exposing the participating students to training and internships. Dr. Ben-Naimah further noted that the Fair will grant students great opportunities to engage with industry while in school, and encouraged students present to take advantage of such opportunities to network with industry players.

The Human Resource Manager of TotalEnergies, Mr. Bright Dokosi, in his address, enumerated the achievements of TotalEnergies through initiatives such as the Career Fairs and reiterated that the initiative was primarily for students and industry to partner. Mr. Dokosi commended Prof. Awandare and Management of the University for nurturing brilliant minds. He further stated that it was key for students to learn the skill of creating businesses to reduce the rate of unemployment in the country.

Mr. Daniel Danquah, Recruitment and Training Manager, TotalEnergies, while introducing the purpose of gathering earlier, stated that the initiative was to advertise the company to needy but brilliant students and brief participants present about the activities of the organisation. During the Career Fair, Mrs. Nana Aba Arthur of TotalEnergies presented a brief overview of the company.

There was a networking session between students and departments of TotalEnergies after the opening ceremony.
