Acting Vice-Chancellor Receives Delegation from Lancaster University

A delegation from Lancaster University, UK and Ghana campus have paid a courtesy call on the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Felix A. Asante. The delegation was made up of Prof. Simon Guy, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Global Sustainability, Lancaster University; Prof. Mark Stevenson, Associate Dean, Global Engagement and Dr. Cynthia Forson, Deputy Provost, Lancaster University, Ghana.

Prof. Simon Guy explained that Lancaster University, UK through its Ghana campus is seeking to remain globally relevant by expanding its research collaboration thus, the need to partner with the University of Ghana which is the premier research-intensive university in Ghana. He gave an overview of the student population, international campuses, courses of study, research strengths, and hinted Lancaster University is a leading University in Cyber Security. He mentioned that the University was looking to engage more on Sustainability research.

Welcoming the delegation, Prof. Asante presented a comprehensive background of the University and highlighted several research projects being undertaken. He pointed out that the University of Ghana was looking to strengthen research in areas such as Cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence, Climate Change, Public Health and health related issues. Prof. Asante called for further deliberation to build consensus on possible collaboration which will culminate in the signing of an MOU between the two institutions.

Prof. Osei-Assibey, Dean, International Programmes Office, spoke about the Internationalisation Strategy of the University, which he said focuses on forging more closer affiliations with universities in the Global South and North, to broaden the University’s reach as the preferred University in terms of partnerships.

In brief remarks, the Registrar, Mrs. Emelia Agyei Mensah advocated for staff exchanges as part of the collaboration to be instituted. She stated that both universities stand to benefit from staff work shadowing, online or in-person exchanges and seminars.

Present at this meeting were Ms. Pascaline Songsore, Senior Assistant Registrar, Public Affairs Directorate and Mrs. Arhizah Blay-Abiti, Senior Assistant Registrar, Office of the Vice-Chancellor.
