13 Law Students Receive Scholarship from Lebanese Community in Ghana

The Lebanese Community in Ghana has awarded scholarships to thirteen (13) deserving undergraduate students pursuing Law at the University of Ghana.

The scholarships were awarded as part of the Lebanese Government’s initiative to finance the studies of brilliant students in various tertiary institutions in Ghana.

Prof. Daniel Ofori Frimpong, Provost of the College of Humanities, who chaired the ceremony, in a short address, expressed sincere gratitude to the Lebanese Community for the continuous support and cooperation throughout the years since the inception of the scholarship scheme in 2013/2014 academic year. He further expressed optimism in a sustained collaboration with the Lebanese Community.

Prof. Raymond Atuguba, Dean, School of Law, was full of appreciation to the Ambassador and Lebanese community in Ghana for massively sustaining a worthy cause. He was hopeful that this support would strengthen the bond between Ghana and Lebanon. “I want to appeal to the Ambassador to consider the expansion of the scholarship, both in size and reach, for not only brilliant students but needy students also”, Prof. Atuguba stated.

His Excellency Maher Kheir, Lebanesse Ambassador to Ghana, expressed his excitement in celebrating the hard work of the students and the legacy of the Lebanese Community in Ghana. He noted that the Lebanese Community in Ghana had passion to promote education, hence the need to “award these brilliant students who will rise to the top of Ghana’s legal enterprise in the near future”.

His Excellency Kheir disclosed that over the nine years since the inception of the scholarship, more than two hundred and fifty (250) students from the University of Ghana, Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and, their new recruits, School of Languages and the Performing Arts School have been supported. “We are on a mission to inspire as many Ghanaian students as possible…we will continue to expand to include many more disciplines as we can’’, he added.

Ambassador Maher Kheir extended immense appreciation to the Lecturers for their cooperation and dedication to duty over the years.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, Miss. Ohenewaa Asantewaa Armoh, expressed profound gratitude to the Lebanese Community in Ghana for the awards and urged fellow beneficiaries not to relent in their studies but keep up with the good work they had begun.

The beneficiaries of the scholarship were drawn from Levels 200, 300 and 400, were, Afi Emenyo Nutakor, Akosua Dion Kassim, Keren Naa Amoatsoo Sackey, Maame Ekua Otenewa Oduro (of Level 200); Abigail Nakuor Wowolo, Chelsea Boaduwaa Coffie, Jasmine Tekyi-Acheampong, Asantewaa Ohenewaa Armoh (Level 300); Selase Divine Agborli, Davina Seyram Gbedy, Esenam Naa Accorley, Julius Boateng and Eugenia Awusi Mensah (Level 400).

Present at the ceremony were Mrs. Elizier T. Ameyaw-Buronyah, Director of Public Affairs, Ms. Susie Naa Odarchoe Lamptey, Administrator, School of Law as well as staff and students from the School of Law. Also present were Mr. Naaman Ashkar and Mr. Hisham Younes of the Lebanese community in Ghana.
