Thirteen (13) brilliant undergraduate Law students from the University of Ghana have been awarded scholarships by the Lebanese Community in Ghana. The award which marked the 7th presentation since the introduction of the Lebanese scholarship scheme, was done by His Excellency Maher Kheir, Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana who presented the cheque to Prof. Kofi Quashigah.
In a short address, Professor Quashigah, Dean of the University of Ghana School of Law who represented the Provost of the College of Humanities, expressed sincere gratitude to the Lebanese community for their continuous support and cooperation. Professor Quashigah noted that beneficiaries of the scholarship scheme have all soared to greater heights since its inception. He therefore charged the current recipients to emulate the shining example of the previous beneficiaries by remaining focused.
Professor Quashigah revealed that the scholarship scheme was highly cherished by the Law School since it motivates and challenges the students to learn harder, gives them the opportunity to have social interactions and provides them with internship opportunities. The scheme according to the Dean, also brings honour and recognition for the great strides students put in their academic work.

In brief remarks, H. E. Maher Kheir, the Lebanese Ambassador to Ghana was full of praise for the hospitality he had enjoyed since his arrival as an Ambassador. He expressed his excitement to lead the delegation and introduced members from the Lebanese community who were part of his entourage.
H. E. Maher Kheir added that the Lebanese embassy was proud to collaborate with the Lebanese community to promote the vision of making tertiary education accessible to many Ghanaian students. He mentioned that over one hundred students had received scholarships to further their education. The Ambassador hinted that the Embassy of Lebanon was working hard to extend the scholarship scheme to other tertiary institutions and disciplines. He was optimistic that these activities will help deepen the relationships between the two countries.

In brief remarks, Mrs. Stella A. Amoa, Director of Public Affairs, expressed appreciation to the Ambassador and the Lebanese community for instituting the scholarship scheme. According to Mrs. Amoa, the scheme was a source of pride as the University of Ghana and the Lebanese community have been able to sustain their cordial relationship over the years. Mrs. Amoa commended H. E Maher Kheir for continuing the good work of his predecessor. She was optimistic that the relationship between the University and the Lebanese community will help forge good relationships between Lebanon and Ghana.

Earlier, Ms. Christine Baning, Head of the Students Financial Aid Office in welcoming the Lebanese delegation, noted that the award which was merit-based, served as a motivation for the awardees to maintain academic excellence. She was grateful to the Ambassador and the Lebanese Community for continuing the scholarship scheme.

Ms. Keziah Hillary Engmann on behalf of her colleague beneficiaries, extended appreciation to the Lebanese Community for the opportunity offered them through the scheme. She paid glowing tribute to the immediate past Ambassador, H. E. Ali H. Halabi for the immense support and the cordial relationship he shared with beneficiaries in the past years and lauded H. E. Maher Kheir for the interest shown in continuing with the scholarship scheme.
Outlining the numerous benefits they had enjoyed from the scholarship scheme, Ms. Engmann noted that the scholarship had encouraged them to strive for excellence in their studies and also motivated them to contribute their quota to society in the near future.
A colourful cake, decorated with colours of both the Lebanese and Ghanaian flags was presented by the Ambassador, after which it was jointly cut by Ambassador Kherson and Prof. Quashigah. The cake was shared by all present.
Beneficiaries of the scholarship are Abena Fosua Nyameye Korankye, Aning Andrews Kweku Benin, Clement Ocran Biney, Emmanuel Dei-Tumi Jnr, Amanda Nuarko, Emmeline Ziwu and Kyere Maureen. Other recipients were Christine Selikem Lassey, Frederick Agaaya Adongo, Prosper Batariwah, Martinson Kwadwo Yebaoh Bediako, Danielle Karikari-Darko and Keziah Hillary Engmann. Some former beneficiaries of the Lebanese scholarship were present at the ceremony.
