SWASA
The Swahili Students Associations (SWASA) is one of the many prestigious associations at the Department of Modern Languages. Students and faculty have come together to form vibrant clubs that allow students the opportunity to pursue their academic interests outside of the classroom. The clubs also engage students in continuously culturally relevant, challenging and entertaining activities. The clubs are:
The poetry club assists Kiswahili students to learn Kiswahili poems. It also equips them with skills to write and recite poems in Kiswahili with ease.
The music and dance section engages students in music and dance activities. Students are taught both the traditional and contemporary Kiswahili songs and dance.
The drama club deals with performances of drama in Kiswahili.
The above-mentioned clubs are run entirely by the students’ executives with support from the Patron Mrs. Hamida Harrison. These clubs create a relaxed platform for educating, informing and equipping the students with the needed skills to improve their language proficiency skills as well as be abreast with current trends of Swahili language and culture. We seek through these effective channels to enable our students to reach a very high level of proficiency in Kiswahili.
