Mission:

Our mission is to provide world-class healthcare laboratory training, leveraging the strengths of the University of Ghana and our team of experienced educators and practitioners. Through innovative teaching methods, cutting-edge research, and community engagement, we aim to develop highly qualified and efficient healthcare laboratory professionals who are equipped to improve patient outcomes, advance academic knowledge, and drive positive change in the broader community. Through this, we aim to benefit patients, communities, and academia.

The overarching goals of the Department are to:

  1. create a learning environment that fosters the development of competent medical laboratory professionals.
  2. equip students and medical laboratory professionals with the necessary theoretical knowledge and technical skills to provide high-quality laboratory services.
  3. deliver a comprehensive technical education to students in both the theoretical and practical aspects of clinical laboratory testing. We strive to create an instructional environment that fosters critical thinking, problem-solving, and lifelong learning, thus preparing students for a career in the field of research.
  4. enable students and medical laboratory professionals to adapt to changes in medical advances, emerging technologies, and evolving healthcare needs.
  5. Empower and support students and medical laboratory professionals to develop entrepreneurial skills and pursue opportunities to start laboratory-related businesses or initiatives, thereby contributing to the growth and innovation of the field.
  6. prepare students and medical laboratory professionals to succeed in their future careers using didactic, laboratory, and internship experiences.
  7. prioritize creating a safe and inclusive learning environment, promote ethical behaviour, and encourage collaboration, innovation, and critical thinking.
  8. provide opportunities for students and medical laboratory professionals to engage in technology-enhanced experiential learning both in the classroom and laboratory settings.
  9. Develop a comprehensive medical laboratory sciences curriculum that caters to the requirements of the students and meets the demands of potential employers of program graduates.
  10. Promote the growth and development of medical laboratory science as a profession.
