Fourth Interdisciplinary Fellow Group at MIASA: The Governance of Sustainable Energy Transitions in the Global South

.

The fourth Interdisciplinary Fellow Group (IFG 4) has started their work on Friday 4 September 2020. Since its inauguration in September 2018 MIASA has hosted three fellow groups at the University of Ghana. The topic of the current fellow group is „The Governance of Sustainable Energy Transitions in the Global South“. As a result of the current COVID-19 pandemic it is a virtual collaboration among eleven researchers working remotely from nine different countries: Ghana, Germany, Nigeria, Côte d'Ivoire, South Africa, Denmark, United Kingdom, United States and Australia.

This IFG aims at developing critical perspectives from the social sciences on the governance of sustainable energy transitions (SETs) in the Global South: What is meant by SET in different Global South contexts? What are the multiple roles that different actors on the ground play to foster SETs? To what extent are local concerns about SETs reflected in international conceptualizations of sustainability and justice? These are some of the questions that the IFG strives to address.
