The course will cover broad areas concerning biological processes in the ocean and how organisms interact with each other as well as the physical marine environment. Aspects to be treated include Scope of Biological Oceanography; Phytoplankton and zooplankton ecology; Measurement of primary and secondary productivity; Energy flow; Food chains and food webs; Microbiology and meiofaunal studies; Nutrient cycling and microbial loop; Ecology of benthic fauna; Structure and function of Fish and vertebrates; and Life history strategies and developmental patterns.
