Principles and scope of fisheries taxonomy.  The binomial system of naming species; fish origins (Coelacanth, Latimeriachalumnae, the three living lung fishes, Protopterus, Lepidosiren, and Neoceratodus).; scope of classification; Classification and identification of major groups of freshwater and marine fishes. Primitive bony fishes.
