COMA 601: Integrated Coastal Management

This course will focus on the importance of Integrated Coastal Area Management (ICAM); Definitions and basic concepts in ICAM; Evolution of global perspectives on ICAM; The role of gender in ocean and coastal activities; Problems and opportunities in the coastal zone; Coastal zones of Western Africa; Coastal and ocean activities in Western Africa; Social, economic, and political institutions involved with coastal and ocean uses in Western Africa. Marine spatial planning (MSP), GIS/RS, AIS, UAV, satellite & space application, vessel trafficking etc. coastal pollution.
