This course examines critical issues in language planning, with special focus on education. The link between language, education and development will be explored. Issues relating to official vs. national languages and their roles in education will also be examined. Arguments in favour or against the use of indigenous languages in education in Ghana will be discussed and critiqued. Specific policies in selected African countries, such as Ghana, Tanzania and South Africa will be discussed.
