This course aims at equipping students with practical tools for analysing different genres of discourse. Students will be required to use different discourse analytical approaches for the analyses of texts (both spoken and written) from various domains. These texts may include media discourse, parliamentary discourse, classroom discourse and workplace discourse. Students will also be given an opportunity to do a small-scale discourse analysis, by applying any of the theoretical approaches to samples of their own data or data relevant to their own research.
