This course provides an in-depth study of various perennial and problematic issues in morphological analysis. Competing views on the origins and development of various core concepts in Linguistic Morphology will be discussed. Topics to be covered include: The Morpheme as a Linguistic Concept, the Word as a Linguistic Unit, Derivational and Inflectional Morphology, Morphological Typology, Morphology and Language Change, Morphology and its interfaces, Morphological Productivity, Compounding, Nominalization and Headedness in Complex words.
