LNGS 702: Field Linguistics

This course provides a practical guide to various aspects of doing linguistic fieldwork. The student is introduced to the tools used to describe aspects of linguistics such as phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics. Emphasis is placed on data collection and interpretation, the ethical issues of working with human subjects, and some of the problems that arise from doing fieldwork. The course also focuses on fieldwork on less studied and/or endangered languages.
