CALL FOR PAPERS: 3rd School of Languages Conference (SOLCON III)

The School of Languages and the Language Centre of the College of Humanities, University of Ghana, invite proposals for individual papers, panels and poster sessions for the 3rd School of Languages Conference (SOLCON III) to be held from 22-24 October 2019 at University of Ghana, Legon Campus, Accra.

The conference which is themed, "Languages, Cultures and Literatures across Barriers: Africa and the World in Context and Contact," seeks to bring together researchers, scholars, public speakers and students to discuss the theme and its domains through theoretically-nuanced (inter)disciplinary papers and presentations. As part of the conference, a colloquium on the theme “Non-African Languages in Africa: Impact on African Modernity and Development” will be organized.

Proposals addressing one or more of the following domains in language, culture and literature are invited: linguistics, sign language, interpreting/translation, education, gender studies, the media, social media, performing arts, theatre, dance, migration studies, politics, healthcare, advertising and marketing, law, religions, sports, music, communication, history, philosophy, public relations, psychology, sociology, geography, science/technology, agriculture and climate change.

Panelists/presenters are, however, not restricted to the above domains, and are welcome to present on other related topics in language, cultural studies and literature.

The following formats are available:

  • 20 minutes presentation followed by 10 minutes discussion
  • 120 minutes panel with 4 to 6 presenters
  • Poster presentation

The language of the conference is English, however, panels in other languages are welcome, and encouraged, especially, if they relate to the interrelations of African languages and non-African languages.

Proposal of panels should consist of:

  • Title of the panel
  • Convener
  • Proposed panelists
  • Discussant (if necessary)
  • Language (if different from English)
