Advancing Innovation and Entrepreneurship for Job Creation: The Role of Higher Education.

INTRODUCTION

This webinar brings together experts in academia and industry to share their perspectives on the fundamental pillars needed to drive innovation and entrepreneurship within the context of higher education and. job creation. The educated have the power to shape the world by imparting knowledge that shapes the orientation and skill sets of the next generation who are expected to create profitable businesses to sustain national economies. The conscious implementation of Innovation and entrepreneurship concepts leading to talent hunts and subsequent job creation have proven to be one of the biggest drivers of the progress and creativity the world has seen among the highly educated. It has therefore become imperative for Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) especially the universities which are the citadels of knowledge creation to play a coordinated role as key agents in advancing innovation and entrepreneurship.

 

IMPLEMENTATION

A panel will explore the intersection between higher education, innovation, and entrepreneurship, with a goal that seeks to answer following questions:

1.       What is the role of higher education and higher educational institutions in innovation and entrepreneurship?

2.       Does Ghana’s current educational structure address the skills gaps and cater for future entrepreneurs and innovators?

3.       How can higher educational institutions be the magnet that attract and nurture the best entrepreneurial talent and churn out the most relevant innovations to propel the economy?

 

Panel members will leverage on: key enablers, institutional processes and capabilities, opportunities and share practical examples from other parts of the world that may be useful to justify their purviews. The needed convergence between academia, industry and policy makers could be explained.

ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF GHANA INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROGRAM (UGIEP)

 

The UGIEP is an initiative by the University of Ghana in partnership with Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN) - Ghana to harness the innovation hubs at University of Ghana and strengthen the University of Ghana’s entrepreneurial training through extracurricular activities that the university runs to impact society more positively, innovate to solve major socio-economic challenges and create jobs.

The program was launched in August 2021 by the Vice President of Ghana, H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the Acting Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo.
