1.0 Background of the Industry-Academia Interaction Series and Exhibition 

enlightened The Institute of Applied Science and Technology (IAST) under the College of Basic and Applied Sciences of the University of Ghana is a multidisciplinary unit that facilitates the transfer of knowledge, technology and innovation developed at the University of Ghana to partners within the university community and external collaborators in industry and government. The institute also engages its external partners on their research and human resource needs. The institute leverages on its periodic Industry-Academia Interaction Series and Exhibition programme to achieve one of its key objectives of showcasing technologies developed from departments of the University of Ghana and, products/services from collaborators in industry and government.

yes The OVERALL AIM of the Industry-Academia Interaction Series and Exhibition is to facilitate engagements between industry and academia, to help promote research that is relevant to industrial and national interests, and in finding solutions to local, regional and global challenge.

    Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong 

⇒ Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, popularly known as Jospong by his close associates is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Jospong Group of companies. The Jospong Group of Companies is one of the most diversified holdings companies in Ghana with operations in other African countries and Asia. The company has interest in about 14 sectors of the economy with its biggest operations in waste management, ICT, banking, including automobile and equipment. Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong was adjudged the Entrepreneur of the Decade in 2020 during the Ghana Business Awards.

Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong was adjudged the Overall Best Entrepreneur of the Year 2011 during the Ghana Entrepreneur Awards and was also voted Fifth Most Respected CEO in Ghana in the same year.

Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology conferred an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Literature on Joseph Siaw Agyepong in 2011 for his contribution to waste management and higher education in Ghana. He was also named Ghana’s Most Influential Industrialist for 2011.

Dr Agyepong was awarded the Order of the Volta in 2008, the Millennium Excellence Award for Leadership in Industry, the Most Marketing Oriented Company by the Chartered Institute of 2020

 

 Mrs. Anna Armo-Himbson

Mrs. Anna Armo-Himbson is the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) formerly the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI). She has over thirty years’ experience in entrepreneurship development having built relevant expertise through her work life, local and foreign courses. She was employed as an Assistant Trainer/Motivator located at the Accra Business Advisory Centre and eventually became Ag. Regional Manageress with responsibility to manage financial and non-financial activities to promote and develop Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in the Gt Accra Region.

She was subsequently assigned the responsibility of coordinating the Promotion of Micro and Small Enterprises (PSME) project, a collaboration between the Ghanaian and German Governments to facilitate access of MSMEs to Business Development Services (BDS) and financial services.

She rose to the position of Director of the Women Enterprises Development Department and was finally re-assigned Director of the Entrepreneurship Development Department but with oversight responsibility over the Women Entrepreneurship Development Directorate.

She holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (Marketing option)

 

 Professor Dorothy Yeboah-Manu

Professor Dorothy Yeboah-Manu is the Director of the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research. She holds the honour of being the first female director of the institution. Prior to her appointment, she served as the Deputy Centre Leader at the West African Centre for Cell Biology of Infectious Pathogens.

She studied at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where she obtained First-class Honours in Biochemistry. She further pursued her education at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, where she completed a Masters in Applied Molecular Biology of Infectious Diseases. In 2006, Prof Yeboah-Manu earned her PhD from the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute.

She holds a membership at the American Society for Microbiology, International Union against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, as well as the WHO Global Network of Laboratories Confirming Buruli Ulcer. She is also an executive member of the Federation of African Immunological Societies, and a committee member of the National Buruli Ulcer Control Program.

Prof Yeboah-Manu is the Chairperson of the Advisory Board of the National Tuberculosis Control Program.She is also a board member of the African Research Academy for Women.

In 2018, she received a Royal Society Africa Prize for her contributions and innovative approaches to understanding Mycobacterium ulcerans and Mycobacterium africanum, combining microbiology, genetic studies and epidemiology in the areas of her work.

 Dr. Humphrey Anim Darke

Dr. Humphrey Kwesi Ayim-Darke is an astute business man, industrialist, and Management Consultant with a career spanning over twenty-two years in Management Consulting, industrial packaging, mining and bulk haulage of industrial raw materials.

Dr. Ayim-Darke is the President of the Association of Ghana Industries. He is the founder and Chairman of Redmoon Resources Limited, an industrial resources, mining and bulk haulage company.Dr. Ayim-Darke is also the Chairman of Hamdark Industrial Packaging Limited, an industrial bag- production company till date.

He currently serves as a member of the boards of the Millennium Development Cooperation (MIDA); the Ghana Integrated Aluminum Development Cooperation (GIADEC); the Petroleum Hub Development Cooperation (PHDC); the Ghana Plastic Action Partnership (GPAP); and the W.E.B. Du Bois Museum Foundation, Ghana.

Dr. Humphrey Kwesi Ayim-Darke, holds a Doctorate in Businesses Administration (DBA) from the Swiss Business School (SBS) Geneva, a Master's (MA) in Applied Business Research from the Swis Business School (SBS) Geneva, a Master of Arts (MA) in Organisational Development from the University of Cape Coast and is also an Alumnus of GIMPA Law School.

 

   Mrs. Kate Quartey–Papafio

A courageous Ghanaian Industrialist, Mrs. Kate Quartey–Papafio is a firm, proactive and resourceful leader who sees risks and challenges as opportunities for growth and development. To her, gender cannot be an excuse for non-performance. She founded Reroy Cables Ltd in 1992 to distribute high quality electrical cables and as at today, Reroy Cables represents the repositioning of one of the iconic brand names in Ghana’s cable manufacturing and aluminium application industry which goes beyond its basic power cables business. Presently, the operation of the Reroy Group is in four specialists engineering entities; Reroy Cables Limited, Reroy Power Limited, Reroy Metals Limited and Reroy Energy Limited. 

She was on 18th October 2014 crowned the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMG) Marketing woman of the year 2013 and on 12th December adjudged winner in the Entrepreneurship category at the maiden edition of the Osagyefo Kwame Nkrumah African Genius Award and her company Reroy cables limited was adjudged the Manufacturing Company of the year 2014 at the latest National Marketing awards organized by the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana. Other achievements include Electrical Product of the Year 2013; Ghana-Made Products awards, Winner 2013 Ernst & Young West Africa Entrepreneur of the Year Award, Africa’s most influential Women in business & government Awards 2013; CEO Communications Limited, South Africa and Silver Award; 3rd Ghana-Africa Business Awards 2008. Her versatility transcends hospitality to an actual vocation through her overtures of help in the fight against COVID-19 with a whopping GHS100,000 coupled with keloid support and also donations to governmental and private hospitals.

 Mr. Tsonam Cleanse Akpeloo

Mr. Tsonam Cleanse Akpeloo is a Ghanaian economist, industrialist and technology entrepreneur. He is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Suku Technologies, a leading technology solutions firms in Ghana with clients in six countries in Africa and Europe.

He has a huge passion for social and community development. He is a global shaper and founding curator of the Ho Hub of the World Economic Forum. He is the team lead of Kadodo Africa, a digital portal that profiles, verifies, authenticates and promotes businesses in Ghana and Africa to position them for the benefits of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). He is also the national chairman of the ICT sector of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI).

He has chaired the ECOWAS Council on e-commerce technical working committee in Abuja, Nigeria. He serves on several boards including NVTI CMMTI, Methodist University College of Ghana and Accra Technical University. Tsonam is a Mandela Washington Fellow of the United States Department of State, Tony Elumelu Entrepreneur, UNDP Youth Connect Fellow and Alibaba eFounder’s Fellow.

He was been awarded Ghana 40 Under 40 in ICT, USADF Grant Prize for Young African Leaders, Top 35 Under 35 CEOs Award among others. He’s been educated at Alibaba Business School in China, Clark Atlanta Business School in Atlanta, USA, Stanford SEED program of the Stanford Graduate School of Business, Ghana Technology University and University of Ghana.

 

For the Exhibition:

As part of the Institute's 5th Industry-Academia Interaction Series, the Institute is organizing an Industry exhibition fair on the 21st and the 22nd of April, 2022. The exhibition would create the platform for entrepreneurs and some industries to display products, services and technologies made locally to the University community.  The exhibition would attract key participants from small, medium and large scale businesses, the university community, development partners and media.

Exhibitors will be given an exhibition booth which includes a well labeled and designed space, 2 chairs and a table.
