WELCOME ADDRESS FOR THE 2022\2023 ACADEMIC YEAR

Dear Esteemed Graduate Students,

I extend a warm welcome to each and every one of you. It is an honour and privilege to represent you in this esteemed institution. My administration and I are committed to ensuring that your graduate student experience is enriched and supported in every possible way.

GRASAG is diligently working to address various challenges that you may encounter during your academic journey. One of our key focuses is the enhancement of the Graduate Student Bursary program. We understand the financial burdens associated with pursuing higher education and are dedicated to advocating for improved accessibility and support through the bursary program. Rest assured, we will actively work to ensure that your financial needs are considered and met to the best of our abilities.

Another area of concern is the provision of identification cards (ID cards) to all graduate students. We recognize the significance of having a valid ID card for campus access, administrative purposes, and more. To streamline the process and expedite the issuance of ID cards, we are collaborating closely with the university administration. We are actively seeking solutions to ensure that each of you receives your ID card promptly.

Furthermore, we understand the challenges that may arise during the research process, leading to potential delays in thesis submission. We are committed to advocating for a more flexible and understanding approach to thesis submission deadlines. By engaging with faculty and department heads, we aim to create an environment that acknowledges and accommodates unforeseen circumstances while upholding academic rigour and standards.

The issue of graduate student accommodation is also at the forefront of our concerns. We recognise the difficulties many of you face in finding accommodation on campus. Our administration is committed to exploring ways to tackle this major issue together with school administration.

As your representatives, we are dedicated to amplifying your voices and addressing the issues that matter to you. We encourage you to actively engage with GRASAG and provide valuable feedback on any challenges you encounter during your academic journey. Together, we can foster a nurturing and supportive environment that facilitates your academic and personal growth.

I would like to remind you to regularly check the GRASAG-LEGON website and the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) for news and updates. These platforms will provide you with valuable information on upcoming seminars, workshops, and other events. They are excellent resources for enhancing your academic and professional development.

Let us embark on this remarkable journey together. I invite you to actively participate in the various programs, events, and initiatives that GRASAG will organise throughout the academic year.

Once again, welcome to GRASAG-LEGON. Together, let us create a vibrant and inclusive graduate student community. Your involvement and feedback are essential as we strive to meet your needs and provide unwavering support.

Best regards,

Peter Mensah
