Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Outreach Event and Professor Adum Kwapong Memorial Lectures

Members of the University community are hereby invited to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Outreach Event and the second edition of the Professor Adum Kwapong Memorial Lectures being co-convened by the United Nations University - Institute for Natural Resources in Africa (UNU-INRA).

The two day event will be held as follows:

Time: 11:00 am to 12:30 pm

Venue: School of Law Auditorium and Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR)

 

Presentations and ensuing conversations, to be led by senior officials of the IPCC, will seek to break down complex concepts and terms to make the report accessible to stakeholders to enhance ownership and responsibility for recommendations. The event will feature special guests including the Chair and Vice Chair of the IPCC, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana, and leadership of the African Academy of Science, among others.

The second session of the Professor Alexander Adum Kwapong Lectures- -which coincides with the event on IPCC activities and findings- will be observed concurrently with a lecture on 26th July by Dr. Youba Sokona, Vice Chair of the IPCC, on the topic "Is Africa's energy transition within reach? Construction and deconstruction of energy and development narratives in Africa."

Launched on 25 April 2019, the Professor Alexander Adum Kwapong Lectures is a quarterly event held within the respected knowledge cradle of the University of Ghana, with the aim of providing a space to facilitate free debate and the exchange of ideas.
 
The combined event - IPCC activities and findings and the second Professor Alexander Kwapong Lecture- is expected to attract a broad range of key decisicion makers and stakeholders, particularly key players in climate change, the environment and the energy sector.
